  • EIKA participates in SkyCoat research project
EIKA joined SkyCoat high-tech research project initiated by the Italian University Universita ‘degli Studi dell’Insubria. The main aim of the project is to create a new material for indoor lighting and building architecture.
Using the latest technology, a special coating simulating the sky will be developed for the hypogeal (underground) spaces, windowless premises and architecture of high-rise buildings.
The project involves university scientists, businesses from different industries.  Science and business representatives intend to use the new material in underground (metro), interiors and building façades. Innovative lighting systems will be applicable in different areas. These lighting solutions will provide new possibilities for architecture, design and urban planning, as well as promote changes in light design and other lighting areas.
The new lighting solutions will be adapted in EIKA projects. It is planned to equip an exhibition-apartment in 2015, presenting the new SkyCoat material with the emitted light resembling natural daylight. Moreover, this innovative material will be used in underground parking, stairwells and other places lacking natural daylight.
The SkyCoat project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n. 310483 (www.skycoat.eu).
